Change the Starting IMG Number for iPhone Photos
Renaming your photos into a sequence but need them to start somewhere specific — like IMG_0050 to continue from a previous batch? Here's how to set any starting number you want.
When You Need a Custom Starting Number
- • You already uploaded IMG_0001–IMG_0024 to an eBay listing and want to continue from IMG_0025
- • You're organizing multiple product shoots and want each to start at a round number: 100, 200, 300
- • A client needs files to begin at PHOTO_0501 to slot into an existing catalog
- • You want to leave room in the sequence for photos you'll add later
How to Set the Starting Number
- Open Img Name Fixer and select your photos.
- The tool sorts by EXIF capture time automatically. Switch to Manual sort if preferred.
- In Rename Settings, choose a Filename Format — IMG Number, Date + Number, or Date + IMG Number all support a custom starting number.
- Set the Starting number — type any number: 1, 25, 100, 501.
- Set Padding — 4 digits gives 0025; 3 digits gives 025.
- Preview the new names in the list, then tap Download ZIP.
Example Outputs
Prefix: IMG_ · Start: 25 · Padding: 4
Prefix: PRODUCT_ · Start: 200 · Padding: 3
What This Tool Does Not Do
Img Name Fixer renames the batch of files you select — it does not change the internal numbering your iPhone's camera uses. If your phone's camera roll is currently at IMG_4293, the tool can't reset that counter. It only renames the files in the ZIP it exports.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start at 0 instead of 1?
Yes. Set the starting number to 0 and the first file will be IMG_0000.jpg.
What padding should I use for large batches?
Use 4-digit padding for most batches — it supports up to 9,999 files and sorts correctly. For very large catalogs, 5-digit padding is also available.
Will the download change my original photos?
No. Your originals are not touched. The renamed copies are only inside the ZIP.
Can I continue a sequence across multiple batches?
Yes. Export the first batch starting at 1, note how many photos it contained, then set the next batch to start at that number + 1. For example, if batch 1 ended at IMG_0024, start batch 2 at 25.
Does the starting number work with date-based filename formats?
Yes. The Date + Number format (e.g. 2026-06-21_025.jpg) and the Date + IMG Number format (e.g. 20260621_IMG_0025.jpg) both use the same starting number and padding controls. Set your starting number to 25 with 3-digit padding and the output begins at 2026-06-21_025.jpg.
