Batch Rename iPhone Photos into a Clean IMG_#### Sequence
Got a folder of iPhone photos with mixed, out-of-order names? Rename them all into a clean, sequential batch in under a minute — sorted by when they were actually taken.
The Problem With iPhone Photo Batches
iPhone photos leaving the Photos app often arrive on your computer or in your Files app with inconsistent names — especially if they passed through iCloud, AirDrop, WhatsApp, or a shared album. You might end up with a mix of IMG_3847.jpg, image (1).jpg, and Photo_2024.jpg all in the same folder.
Manually renaming dozens or hundreds of photos is error-prone and slow. And sorting by "date modified" in Finder or Windows Explorer doesn't always reflect when the photo was actually taken.
How Batch Renaming Works
Img Name Fixer reads the EXIF capture timestamp embedded in each image — the moment the iPhone shutter fired — and uses that to sort and rename the entire batch in one step.
You choose the prefix (IMG_, PHOTO_, or anything you like), the starting number, and the digit padding. The original file extension — .jpg, .heic, .png — is preserved automatically.
What's in the Download
Every download is a Photo Transfer Pack — a ZIP containing:
- Renamed photo copies — the files you selected, with new sequential filenames
- manifest.csv — a spreadsheet listing every original filename, its new filename, capture date, file size, and sort method used
- README.txt — a plain-text note explaining the pack contents
Your original photos are not changed. The renamed files are copies only.
Supported File Types
- JPG / JPEG — standard iPhone photo format
- HEIC — Apple's high-efficiency format (modern iPhones)
- PNG — screenshots and edited images
- WEBP — images from web or messaging apps
What Img Name Fixer Can and Cannot Do
✓ Can do
- • Rename an entire batch in one step

- • Set custom prefix, starting number, and padding
- • Handle JPG, HEIC, PNG, WEBP in the same batch
- • Process locally — photos never leave your device
✗ Cannot do
- • Recover original filenames assigned by the iPhone camera
- • Convert file formats (HEIC stays HEIC)
- • Edit photo content or metadata
No Upload. No Account. No Software.
Everything runs in your browser. Your photos stay on your device. There's no server, no account to create, and no app to install. Open imgnamefixer.com on your iPhone in Safari, or on any desktop browser, select your photos, and download the renamed ZIP.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rename HEIC files?
Yes. HEIC files are renamed just like JPGs. They won't preview in most desktop browsers, but they're renamed correctly and included in the ZIP.
What if photos are out of order by capture time?
Switch to Manual sort mode to drag photos into your preferred order before renaming.
Is there a photo limit?
The free tier handles up to 25 photos per ZIP. For larger batches, unlock unlimited export for a one-time $4.99.
Does batch renaming change my original files?
No. Originals stay exactly as they are on your device. Only the files inside the downloaded ZIP have the new names.
