Rename iPhone Photos Sequentially to IMG_0001, IMG_0002, IMG_0003
Whether you're organizing a photo shoot, preparing a product listing, or handing files off to a client, sequential filenames make everything easier. Here's how to rename a whole batch of iPhone photos in one step.
Why Sequential Names Matter
Files with consistent, numbered names sort predictably in every app — Finder, Windows Explorer, Google Drive, Lightroom, eBay, Etsy. A batch named IMG_0001.jpg through IMG_0048.jpg loads in the right order every time. A mixed bag of IMG_4102.jpg, Photo 1.jpg, and image(3).jpg almost never does.
How to Rename iPhone Photos Sequentially
- 1
Open Img Name Fixer and select photos
Open imgnamefixer.com in your browser and tap Select Photos. Choose the iPhone photos you want to rename from your Camera Roll or Files app.
- 2
Choose your sort order
Select Capture Time to order photos by EXIF timestamp — the exact moment each was shot. Switch to Manual sort to drag photos into any custom order.
- 3
Set your prefix, starting number, and padding
Choose a filename prefix (e.g. IMG_), the starting number (e.g. 1 or 100), and digit padding (e.g. 4 digits for IMG_0001).
- 4
Preview the renamed sequence
Review the list of renamed filenames before downloading to confirm the order and names are correct.
- 5
Download the Photo Transfer Pack
Tap Download Photo Transfer Pack. The ZIP contains your renamed photo copies, a manifest.csv listing original and new filenames, and a README.txt. Your originals are not changed.
What You Choose
- • Prefix — IMG_, PHOTO_, ITEM_, or anything you like
- • Starting number — start at 1, 100, or wherever your sequence needs to begin
- • Padding — zero-pad to 4 digits (0001) so files sort correctly even with large batches

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose IMG_0100 as my starting number?
Yes. Set the starting number to 100 and padding to 4 digits — your sequence will be IMG_0100, IMG_0101, and so on.
Does it work with HEIC files?
Yes. HEIC files are renamed just like JPGs and included in the ZIP with their original extension preserved.
Are there any file limits?
Up to 25 photos free. Unlock unlimited export for a one-time $4.99.
Will my originals be changed?
No. The originals stay exactly as they are on your device. Only the files inside the downloaded ZIP have the new names.
