Rename iPhone Product Photos Before Upload to eBay, Etsy & Marketplaces

The order your product photos appear in a listing is controlled by their filenames. Rename them into a clean sequence before you upload — and your hero shot will always be first.

Why Product Photo Order Matters

eBay, Etsy, Facebook Marketplace, Depop, and Vinted all sort incoming photos alphabetically by filename. If you upload files named IMG_4201.jpg, Photo.jpg, and image (3).jpg, the platform picks the order — not you. Naming them sequentially puts you in control.

The Seller's Workflow

Photograph your item
Shoot in the order you want photos to appear: hero shot first, then detail angles, then size reference, then packaging.

Open Img Name Fixer
Open imgnamefixer.com in your browser — on your iPhone in Safari or on any desktop browser. Select all the product photos.

Sort by Capture Time
The tool reads EXIF capture time and sorts your photos in the exact order you shot them. Switch to Manual sort if you want to change the order.

Set your prefix and starting number
Use IMG_ or a custom prefix like ITEM_. Set padding to 4 digits for a clean sequence. Set the starting number — 1 for a fresh listing, or a higher number to continue an existing batch.

Preview and download the Photo Transfer Pack
Review the renamed sequence in the preview list, then tap Download Photo Transfer Pack. The ZIP contains renamed copies of your photos, a manifest.csv with original and new filenames, and a README.txt. Your originals are not changed.

Upload from the ZIP
Unzip and upload the renamed files to your eBay, Etsy, or marketplace listing. They'll appear in the order IMG_0001, IMG_0002… — exactly what you intended. Use the Files app on iPhone to upload directly.

Can I do this on my iPhone right before uploading to Etsy?

Yes. Open imgnamefixer.com in Safari on your iPhone, select the product photos from your Camera Roll, rename them, and download the ZIP to Files. Then upload from Files directly to Etsy's mobile app.

What if I took some extra shots I don't want in the listing?

After selecting photos, switch to Manual sort and delete any unwanted shots from the list before downloading. Only the photos that remain in the list will be included in the ZIP.

Does the ZIP preserve the photo quality?

Yes. Renaming only changes the filename — the image data and quality are untouched. HEIC, JPG, and PNG files all come out at full quality.

How many product photos can I rename at once?
